How Did You Discover Megadeth?

So there's a Youtuber named Bradley Hall who made a few videos about what bands sound like to people who love/hate them.

He eventually mentioned a band named Megadeth, and my first thought when I heard Sweating Bullets was, "Wow. This guy isn't too bad. Heck, this song is kinda catchy."

But I wasn't really hooked on exploring more of the band's material until I listened to Peace Sells.
 
Hahaha yeah Bradley Hall is awesome! I discovered Megadeth by listening to Metallica late at night, It was very close to midnight... (is it weird I listen to metal to fall asleep?) Anyways, I looked in the "related albums" section after the album I was listening to concluded, (I believe it was the black album) and it showed "Rust in Peace." I thought this looks promising. At the time I didn't really nerd out over Metallica like I now do with Megadeth, I'm not sure if I even knew who Dave Mustaine was but within the 30 seconds of Holy wars, I knew I found what I was looking for sonically. I promptly sat up, got out of bed and fired up my dad's tube amp and, blasted the hell outta the entirety of Rust in Peace, just loud enough I wouldn't get in trouble. It sure was a great night, I wish I could listen to that album for the first time again.

Nope! The video for Enter Sandman goes to show you how the song can put people to sleep. The same can be said for Prodigal Son by Maiden. Of Wolf and Man is another one.

When I first heard Holy Wars and saw the video, I was speechless!
 
Before I really got into bands like Megadeth and Metallica, I would listen to their most popular songs if I happened to stumble across them. I remember saving Symphony of Destruction to my main playlist because I thought it sounded cool.

My friend gave me some song recommendations and that's when I realized that Megadeth was pretty great, so I started listening to their albums and the rest is history.

Usually most artists I listen to derive from someone I know who loves their music, but my older brother was a casual fan and my dad (who's a metalhead) hates Megadeth so I didn't even know about them until a couple of years ago.

Lucky. None of my friends like Megadeth. I'm usually asked how I got into metal, and I always tell them it was just out of curiosity, since my family can't stand that stuff. Or how Beavis and Butthead introduced me to different bands.

Yeah i watch his stuff every now and then great bloke and I loved watching him shred against Marty
 
I discovered Megadeth thru a guitar bloke called Mr Tabs online and yeah, then i watched a clip saying Toute Le Monde was Megadeths saddest song and being depressed at the time it stuck with me, so I listened and i listened to it for a good month or so and now i heavily enjoyed the white album and RIP. Tornados of soul i was considering to perform but i didnt get around to learning the second half of he solo
 
It was Christmas Break 1986 in Reno, NV. Seventh grade for me. I was skating at a park with some friends. At the time I only listened to punk (Agent Orange, Seven Seconds, ST, TSOL, to name a few). One of our buddies showed up with Peace Sells and threw it in the cassette player. That was it for me, the opening riff for Wake Up Dead was amazing. Then it got to Peace Sells and I was hooked. Megadeth opened the window to Thrash Metal, we called it speed metal back then. Also got me listening to Heavy Metal. I moved away from Reno in 1987. This became full circle on 7/18/2026 when went back to Reno for a Megadeth concert. I did the meet and greet with Dave and told him this story. It was a humbling experience, he signed my Battle Vest and put on an epic show that night. Good times...
