What do we think of Risk?

I've heard a lot of hate for Risk since getting into Megadeth. In my personal experience with the band, there hasn't been a single song I didn't like in all 17 albums. However, among a lot of fans, Risk is like Megadeth's St. Anger (though not nearly as bad in my opinion.)

What are your guys' thoughts on Risk as an album? If you like it, what's your favorite song from the record?

Hey Joey! Great question!

I can't stand St. Anger. I'll try to give it another chance, but that snare drum is terrible. The funny thing is, someone made a video of what RTL would sound like with St. Anger's sound, and it was listenable and really good.

There are only two songs on Risk that I consider good/decent. Breadline and I'll Be There. The tracks were either boring or questionable. I love pop music, but that's not Dave's thing or strong point. Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings are a bit poppy, but what makes those albums good is they have "structure." Songs either have a great buildup or catchy riffs. The intro to Trust is really good, and the solo to Elysian Fields is fantastic.

Risk, on the other hand, is a mess. I thought Insomnia would be good, but it got worse. I respect the people that like the album because it wasn't an easy listen for me.

I can't stand insomnia, I'm not a Dave voice hater but that one is very grating and repetitive to me. Other than that all the other songs are pretty alright to me.

I would rather listen to the entirety of Risk over The World Needs a Hero or even The System Has Failed. I know alot of people really like System, but I just can't do it. both of those albums seem very forced to me. Where as Cryptic Writings and Risk feel more "Natural" if that makes sense.

Also as other people are saying, I really like Crush 'Em. At bare minimum a very high "B teir" in my humble opinion. I don't really do playlists, but if I did that would definitely be on mine.

I'd rather listen to The System Has Failed than those two. Risk is annoying, while I found The World Needs a Hero to be an uninspired/boring album that dragged on for too long. A shame since it has a cool album cover. I'd give System a 4/10 since it's not good and only slightly better than the previous installment.

Risk was an experiment, and Cryptic Writings is good since it seems Dave put more effort into those albums.
